There are many ways to celebrate this festive time of year, including hanging up decorations, putting up the Christmas tree, and creating a beautiful gingerbread house!

Gingerbread houses come in many different styles and textures, and it can be fun to learn how to draw a gingerbread house to envision all the possible variations.

How to Draw A Gingerbread House

Step 1

In this first step of our tutorial on drawing a gingerbread house, we will draw the roof and the chimney.

We’ll give this gingerbread house a snowy look and reflect that with the lines we will use to draw it.

Draw a sharply curved shape for the roof. This shape has a smooth line for the top, but underneath, you’ll use lots of rounded lines for the snow look underneath.

So you can draw two straight lines from the right slope of the roof, and then we draw the snowy top of the chimney with some more curved lines.

This is enough for this first step, and we will continue to expand the house over time.

Step 2

Your gingerbread house design will be full of beautiful details and festive designs. We will add them in this second step.

First, draw a series of small circles inside the roof outline you drew in the previous step. This makes it look like a bunch of little candies are stuck on the roof.

Next, draw some rounded shapes on the top lines of the roof to make even more candy stick out of the roof. Then we draw a nice star at the top of the roof and attach it to two small straight lines.

Finally, let’s make this image cozier by drawing some wavy smoke out of the chimney.

Step 3

There are many delicious candies in your house, but you can only have a few!

For this reason, in this next step of our guide, we will add more on how to draw a gingerbread house.

First, start by drawing a large circle under the rooftop. This will then have swirling lines and small shapes on the side to make it look like candy in a wrapper. Next, we’ll draw some wavy lines underneath and add small circles.

This step is then completed with some candy cane holders for the home. You can draw them with a few straight lines with curved lines going through them to get the signature candy cane pattern.

Step 4

We’ll continue drawing your gingerbread house, adding some windows in this step.

You can create these windows by drawing two slightly rounded squares containing four smaller squares.

Then there are some rectangles under the windows with more candy cane designs adorning them.

Finally, we will end up with some small circles above the windows. Then in the next step, you are ready for some final details!

Step 5

Before you color your drawing, we have a few final details to add in this fifth part of our guide to drawing a gingerbread house.

First, you can use a rounded line for your front door. This will have a small window with a heart at the top.

Finally, we’ll finish with rounded shapes for some tasty trees at the house’s base. These complete our final details, but feel free to add your own!

You can paint your favorite candy on this house or add other Christmas decorations for festive ideas.

Step 6

Your gingerbread house design is almost complete and needs some pretty colors to finish it off.

We’ve shown you some of the colors we would use in our reference image, but you should take the opportunity to use one of your favorite colors to top it off. The more bright, happy colors you can incorporate into this image, the better!

You can also use your favorite art media to create as bright or muted colors as you like, and this is a great way to add your touch to the image.

There are so many amazing ways to use color to complete this design, so have fun and show us how creative you can be!
